In a Southwestern spin on the Chicken Little tale, Chachalaca Chiquita, a colorful southwestern bird, is on a mission to tell the jefe (boss) that the sky is falling after  a pebble falls from the sky and hits her right on the head. Chachalaca Chiquita joins the feathered flock-Lina Gallina, the prairie hen, and her chicks-and heads to the mountain, passing bugs buzzing, birds flying, lizards snatching, and animals moseying, collecting more animals along their journey. Keeping her boyfriend, Israel, a Gansta, out of trouble is a lot tougher. When the three walk to school one day, they encounter another gang. A blade is drawn, setting in motion events that lead to Clarisa getting detention. Clarisa makes a bold choice—she will skip school to avoid detention and hang out with Israel instead. But every adult seems to know what Clarisa is doing, and the other gang isn’t finished with them yet… Every choice makes a difference.

Murder By The Book
Mac Barnett MG Author

Mac Barnett will sign and discuss DANGER GOES BERSERK, in which a  twelve-year-old sleuth goes undercover—and underwater—to tackle three cases in this hilarious mystery.

It’s a routine case…
…or at least as routine as a cases get when you’re a twelve-year-old private detective who’s been sleuthing for just a few months: Steve Brixton must don a neon wetsuit and work undercover to retrieve a stolen surfboard.
But when the assignment goes all wrong, Steve finds himself caught inside mysteries involving wild surfers, pirate smugglers, thick-necked goons, and a sixth-grader who can’t find his gym shorts.

Besides the Brixton Brother series, Mac Barnett is the author of  several picture books, including Guess Again! and Chloe and the Lion (both illustrated by Adam Rex), and the NYT bestseller Extra Yarn.

I hope to see many of you at Tweens Read. If you’ve got tweens, bring  ‘em!
