Conference Updates & KidLit Events, March 22-29
Seven more writing conferences have been added this week! There are a few literary agencies we don’t usually see attending conferences right now so you might want to look into these rare opportunities. On the home front, we have three author events. I hope you get to make it to at least one of them!

KIDLIT AUTHOR EVENTS
MARCH 26, SATURDAY, 3:00-5:00 PM
River Oaks Bookstore
Denise Ditto, Children’s Author
Local author Denise Ditto presents the first book in The Tooth Collector Fairies, BATINA’S BEST FIRST DAY. In the magical land of Brushelot it is Batina’s first day collecting teeth. She is determined that her humongous wings will not interfere with her mission. But on her way back, with the tooth secure in her pouch, her wings cause her to tumble and the tooth is lost. Batina must call on her best friends, Lainey the brainiac and little Lulu to work together to save the day. Come by and get your picture taken with the fairies!
MARCH 28, MONDAY, 11:30 AM & #;00 PM
MD Anderson Library Rockwell Pavilion
Matt de la Peña, YA/Children’s Author
The University of Houston Libraries is pleased to welcome Matt De la Peña, the New York Times bestselling author of six young adult novels and two critically-acclaimed picture books at two speaking events on campus. He will discuss the transformative power of literature at the MD Anderson Library Rockwell Pavilion, and will also lead a craft talk and Q&A in Farish Hall Kiva Room. Both talks will be followed by a book sale, and are free and open to the public. Students are especially encouraged to attend. RSVP here.
MARCH 29, 7:00 PM
Barnes & Noble, The Woodlands
Kristin Rae, YA Author
Join local author Kristin Rae as she discusses WHAT YOU ALWAYS WANTED, a standalone novel in Bloomsbury’s contemporary If Only romance line centered around an impossible problem: you always want what you can’t have!
Maddie Brooks has always had high standards for guys. But she has yet to find one who can live up to the romantic, classic Hollywood heartthrobs, especially the dreamy song-and-dance man Gene Kelly. When Maddie begins to carpool with Jesse Morales, her new neighbor and star pitcher of the high school baseball team, she’s immediately struck by his wit, good looks, and love for his family—but a guy so into sports is definitely not her style. Then Maddie discovers that Jesse was raised a dancer and still practices in the community theater dance studio to keep in shape. Perhaps her perfect dream guy exists after all. But when it becomes clear that baseball—not dance—is Jesse’s passion, can Maddie find a way to let her dream guy go and appreciate the charms of the amazing guy in front of her?
Now for the conferences. Some of the literary agencies here we don’t see as often are the Stacey Donaghy Literary Group, Harold Ober Associates, Azantian Literary Agency, Zachary Shuster Harmsworth, and Booker Albert Literary.
