Conference Updates & KidLit News, Aug. 8
The new feature here, Book Friends Bookshop, is getting new authors and books added every day. Thank you so much to everyone who has been visiting and spreading the word! It’s so exciting to see these books selling!
Starting today, I’m introducing a new weekly segment, the Book Friends Bookshop Spotlight. Back-to-school merchandise is filling the stores, so I thought it would be fun to shine this week’s spotlight on books about magical schools. Click on the image to read about each book!

Happy Book Birthday!
Today’s birthday wishes go to an amazingly prolific author, library and indie bookstore benefactor, mentor to many writers, and champion of children’s literacy, James Patterson, for the latest in his Middle School series.
HOW I SURVIVED BULLIES, BROCCOLI, AND SNAKE HILL
Written by James Patterson & Chris Tebbetts
Illustrated by Laura Park
Published by JIMMY Patterson Books
Rafe Khatchadorian, the hero of the bestselling Middle School series, is ready for a fun summer at camp—until he finds out it’s a summer school camp!
Luckily, Rafe easily makes friends with his troublemaking cabin mates and bunkmate, a boy nicknamed Booger-Eater, who puts up with endless teasing from the other kids. Rafe soon realizes there’s more to a person than a nickname, though, and Booger-Eater might be the kind of friend you want on your side when the boys from the Cool Cabin attack.
This fourth book in the massively popular Middle School series is an unforgettable summer of hi-jinks, new friends, and surprises, all told with the hilarity and honesty readers have come to expect from blockbuster author James Patterson.
