Conference Updates & KidLit News, June 20
Good news! The fall SCBWI-Houston conference is open for registration! Saturday will feature a keynote by Bruce Coville, First Look Writing and Art pages, an Illustrator Breakout session, a Nonfiction Breakout, a 3-minute window to pitch to an editor or agent of your choice, Portfolio Showcase, Conference Bookstore, and Silent Auction, all followed by dinner and dancing! Attendees will have to option to get critiques form our visiting faculty of agents, editors, and an art director, plus our outstanding local talent.
Sunday will feature three-hour intensive workshops: a novel intensive with Bruce Coville, a picture book intensive with Jennifer Hamburg, and an illustrator intensive with Martha Rago. Scroll down to the conference updates to see the editors, art director and agents who will be attending!
For those who write picture books, the SCBWI Dakotas chapter is hosting a webinar on the evening of June 27, The Big Picture of Picture Books with Author/Illustrator Elise Parsley. Here are the full details and registration.

Local author Ivy Foster shares her educational and inspirational book for children, I AM INVALUABLE TO ME. This book uses dynamic, positive vocabulary and definitions to help children recognize letters and sounds, begin to spell and start to build sentences, learn alphabetical order, understand synonyms/antonyms, dictionary use, all while motivating and encouraging children through positive thoughts and self-affirmations.

Social Networking Event in Montgomery, TX. Houston Writers House members who live in the northern part of the Greater Houston area: Spring, Tomball, Magnolia, The Woodlands, Montgomery, Conroe. A guest speaker, TBA, will talk for about 15-20 minutes on something writing/publishing/editing related.
