New feature!
Our only child has grown and flown, so to distract myself from pining over him being 2000 miles away, I’ve made a self-serving list of in-person writing, arts, and crafting events and workshops that interest me. All are within a reasonable drive for a day trip for me. This area includes Texas counties Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Fort Bend, Harris, Galveston, Grimes, Liberty, Montgomery, Waller, Washington, and Wharton. These are events that interest me, but several million people live in these counties, so I hope some who live around here will also find this calendar useful.
This calendar is mostly for in-person writing, arts, and crafting events and workshops but I may toss in other events that intrigue me. I love festivals, gardening, and anything about animals, so you may see some of those. Blog posts will feature new discoveries but I’ll add events to the calendar on the right as I find them so you can check out what’s going on all year. For more wide-ranging events, check out Arts & Crafts Retreats & Workshops and Writing for Young Readers Retreats & Workshops.
Here’s some events coming up in February and March:
From their website: “Janet will provide generic instructions so each artist can create their own design. She will also provide a worksheet for a specific design. It will be up to each participant to decide which route they would prefer. Let your imagination soar!”
From their website: “This class will take you through the process of making your own pocket knife. You’ll learn how to make wooden scales and apply them to a knife hardware kit. We’ll also cover sawing, sanding, and finishing techniques. By the time the class has completed, you’ll have your very own pocket knife to take home!”
From their website: “Beginner class. This fun class will bring out the inner artist. This is the perfect class to learn to solder while learning to make these artisan, asymmetrical hoops. Measure metal. Learn how to use the basic metalsmithing tools along with prepare the perfect butt joint for solder. Use a flex shaft. Texture, file, sand, polish. Learn to oxide like a pro to give it that worn-in look.”
FREE! From their website: “Please make plans to attend the March meeting with our featured artist, Cynthia Reid. The public is always welcome! As an art teacher for 28 years, Cynthia Reid taught in Conroe ISD high schools, before continuing her work with students at Lone Star College, teaching drawing, design, watercolor, and art appreciation.”
From their website: “Join Wendy Moreland to learn all about the fine art of paper Quilling in this one-day workshop.”
From their website: “Come and enjoy major concerts, an arts & crafts marketplace, a classic & muscle car show, frisbee dogs, a petting zoo, and dozens of Texas-themed rides, attractions, and contests. Check out the Taste of Texas Food Garden, with delicious cuisine, and cold domestic and craft beers. National recording artists will be performing throughout the afternoon and evening on the main stage, as well as juried visual artists presenting the heritage and the culture of our great city.”
