Here’s the story:
Alessandra D’Angeli is in need of an adventure. Tired of her sixteenth-century life in Italy and homesick for her time-traveling cousin, Cat, who visited her for a magical week and dazzled her with tales of the future, Alessandra is lost. Until the stars hear her plea.
One mystical spell later, Alessandra appears on Cat’s Beverly Hills doorstep five hundred years in the future. Surrounded by confusing gadgets, scary transportation, and scandalous clothing, Less is hesitant to live the life of a twenty-first century teen…until she meets the infuriating—and infuriatingly handsome—surfer Austin Michaels. Austin challenges everything she believes in…and introduces her to a world filled with possibility.
With the clock ticking, Less knows she must live every moment of her modern life while she still can. But how will she return to the drab life of her past when the future is what holds everything she’s come to love?
Rachel said this second book, which is a flip-flop of the first, was more of a challenge because it was in first person and the main character could only know what a 16th century girl would know. When asked about her inspiration to become a writer, Rachel told her audience that her inspiration came after she read the entire Twilight saga in four days, then immediately reread it. Afterwards, she took down her favorite books from her bookshelves and went through each one, noting what worked and what she didn’t like. Then she sat down and wrote her first book. She queried agents in January 2011, and while querying, she started on another book, MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY, which debuted in September 2012. And her career didn’t slow down!
Rachel, who writes Flirty Fiction for Young Adults, New Adults and Adults, is quickly amassing a formidable library of her published works. Besides these two Young Adult titles from Entangled, Rachel has two Adult romances in her Love and Games series from Entangled Bliss. That first book she wrote, 2ND TYPE OF GIRL, a YA Contemporary Romance, will be coming soon from Spencer Hill Contemporary—followed by a spin-off, companion novel AND a YA Christmas Romance!
And people, there is more in the works!
During her event at Blue Willow, Rachel gave us a sneak peek into the process she uses to keep track of plot and character development. And here’s a super bonus for writers in the Houston Area: TOMORROW during the Houston YA/MG Writers meeting, Rachel will give a FREE workshop on branding and her writing process. Here’s the info, in case you didn’t see it when I posted this week’s events on Tuesday:
